A Indian Railways is the largest railway system in Asia and the third largest in the world. The first railway system in India was started in April 1853 between Mumbai  and Thane (34 km).The world’s first train ran between Stockton and Darlington in 1825 AD. After this, in 1830, Liverpool and Manchester were connected by rail. Indian Railway Board was established in March 1905. Railway finance was separated from general revenue after the year 1924-25 AD on the recommendation of Atworth Committee. Indian Railways was nationalized in 1950 AD. In 2017, the Railway Budget has been merged with the Union Budget.

The responsibility of Indian Railway administration and management rests with the Railway Board. Railways has been divided into 17 divisions (earlier it was 9). The head of each division is the General Manager.

The longest distance train in the country is Vivek Express (since November, 2011), which runs from Dibrugarh (Assam) to Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu). During this time it covers a distance of 4286 km. 

 Earlier, Himsagar Express, which runs from Jammu Tawi to Kanyakumari (3726 km), was the longest distance train.  Gatimaan Express, which was run between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Agra Cantt stations of New Delhi from April 5, 2016, is the fastest train in the country. The distance covered between the two stations in 100 minutes is 160 km. Achieves a speed of up to 100 km/h.

Note: The world’s longest railway is the Trans-Siberian Railway, which runs 9,438 km from Leningrad to Vladivostok. Is long.

Under the Indian Railways system, till March 31, 2017, a total of 67,368 km. A long railway line was laid. In this, the length of double track railway is 21,237 km. (31.85% of the total) and the length of electrified railways is 25,367 km.    Kolkata Metro Rail: This plan was made in 1972 AD and came into implementation from 1975 AD. The total length of this underground railway from Dumdum to Tollygunge is 16.45 km. Kolkata Metro Rail started on October 24, 1984.

A Delhi Metro Rail: This project has been built with the cooperation of Japanese and Korean companies. Under this, the first train service was run between Tis Hazari and Shahdara on 25 December 2002.

Bangalore Metro Rail: It started on October 20, 2011 under the name of Namma Metro. Its infrastructure facilities have been developed with the cooperation of Japan.

  Mumbai Metro Rail: It started on June 8, 2014.

Mono Rail in Mumbai: In independent India, Mono Rail was first operated in Mumbai, where it was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan on February 1, 2014. Once the entire project (19.17 km) is commissioned, it will be the second longest monorail project in the world. In this regard, Japan’s 23.8 km long Osaka Mono Rail Corridor is the longest. The 16.9 km long Tokyo Corridor currently ranks second.

Metro rail service has also started in Jaipur, Chennai and Lucknow. Metro rail is also under construction in cities like Chandigarh, Bhopal, Guwahati, Pune etc.

The world’s first metro rail ran in London, which started on May 10, 1963. This is the second longest metro train in the world. Its length is 402 km. China’s Shanghai Metro is the world’s longest metro train, its total length is 434 km.

Railway engine manufacturing factories are located in Chittaranjan, Varanasi and Bhopal. Coaches are manufactured in Perambur (near Chennai), Kapurthala, Kolkata and Bangalore. New factories for making railway engines have been established in Madhepura (electrical engine) and Madhaura (diesel engine) (Bihar). Wheel manufacturing factory has been established in Chhapra (Bihar) and rail coach factory has been established in Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh).

Note: The opening of the first Railway University in India in Baroda (Gujarat) has been announced by the Prime Minister.

Amritsar-Delhi Shan-e-Punjab Express is the first train equipped with CCTV cameras. It was inaugurated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu through video conferencing from New Delhi on April 8, 2016. New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express is the first train in India to have Wi-Fi facility. To facilitate long distance travel of the poor, the country’s first Antyodaya Express train with unreserved coaches was run between Ernakulam and Howrah in Kerala. (February 27, 2017) With the completion of Agartala-Akhaura railway line, the rail distance between Kolkata and Agartala has reduced from 1650 km to 560 km. Will remain. This 3-minute song has been written by Satyaprakash and sung by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy under the music direction of Shravan.
