HISTORY OF GEOGRAPHIC

The word geography was first used by Eratosthenes, a Greek scholar (276-194 BC). This word is derived from two roots of Greek language ‘Geo’ (Earth) and ‘Graphos’ (Description). Putting both together means description of the earth. The credit for naming geography and giving a systematic form to this subject at the primary level goes to the people of Greece.
