Wildlife Sanctuaries/National Parks of India
India’s first national park is Jim Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand). Its old name was Hailey National Park which was established in 1935 AD. Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of national parks (11) in the country. It is also called Tiger State. A The largest national park of India is in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir. Its name is Himis and it is spread over 3,550 square km. A The largest tiger reserve of India is Nagarjuna Sagar (Andhra Pradesh). Its area is 3,568 square km. Indian ornithologist and naturalist Salim Ali is called the Birdman of India. Salim Ali National Bird Park is in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Ramganga river flows through Jim Corbett Park. Andaman and Nicobar Islands have the highest number of 94 wildlife sanctuaries in the country. Kashmir stag is found in Dachigam Sanctuary. Lali Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the right bank of the Brahmaputra River in Pasighat (Arunachal Pradesh). Pong here The dance is famous which is performed by the tribes.
The inner Kanika National Park is in Orissa. Many species of mangrove forests are found here. All four species of turtles are found here. Ridley turtle, green sea turtle, Hawkesville turtle and leatherback turtle are found.

Here is the world’s largest breeding ground for the Olive Ridley turtle. Keoladeo Ghana National Park located in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan is called the paradise of birds. Siberian cranes migrate here to breed. Two rivers – Banganga and Gambhiri flow from here. Sultanpur National Park is located in Gurugram district of Haryana. The world’s only floating national park, Keibul Lamjao National Park is located in Imphal and Bishnupur district of Manipur state.

It was declared a national park in 1977. The main fauna of this park is the critically endangered Sangai (Manipuri deer). It has been declared a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
Tiger Reserves of India
For the first time, Indira Gandhi started a program called Project Tiger (1973) under the leadership of Kailash Sankhla, a resident of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Sankhla is called the Tiger Man of India. India’s largest tiger reserve in terms of area is Nagarjuna Sagar, Sri Salem (Andhra Pradesh). The smallest tiger reserve in terms of area is Pench (Maharashtra). Namdapha, the highest altitude tiger reserve in the world, is in Arunachal Pradesh. Tigers are found in 18 states of the country.
